The Mustard Sunburst Rug brings a bold radial pattern into the room through four connected circular forms, each built around a hand-drawn spiral center. A warm mustard-gold field gives the rug its character, while deep navy blue creates strong definition around every ring and pointed sunburst edge. The irregular silhouette follows the movement of the pattern, giving the piece a sculptural presence rather than the appearance of a conventional rectangular area rug.

Designed for interiors that can carry a strong graphic element, this hand tufted rug works especially well in living rooms, lounges, bedrooms, reading areas and creative spaces. The combination of mustard and navy pairs naturally with walnut wood, dark blue upholstery, cream walls, marble floors and warm metallic accents. In the room shown, the rug creates a clear visual connection between deep navy furniture, timber flooring and gold-toned decorative details.

Hand tufted craftsmanship

Each rug is made by hand tufting yarn into a prepared foundation to build the design one section at a time. The mustard and navy areas are carefully separated so the circular motifs remain clear across the surface. After tufting, the pile is trimmed to create an even finish and sharpen the edges of the pattern. The outer contour is then finished around the irregular shape, including the repeated pointed sections that extend from each sunburst.

The pile gives the rug a soft surface underfoot while retaining enough structure for the radial artwork to remain visually defined. Hand finishing also gives the surface subtle variation that is characteristic of handmade floor coverings. Minor differences in texture, yarn placement and finishing can occur from one piece to another, making each rug slightly individual.

A sunburst pattern with a graphic character

The main design is built around four large circular motifs. Each one has a simple spiral at its center, followed by alternating mustard and navy rings. The outer sections break into pointed rays, creating a sunburst effect that repeats across the rug. Because the four forms overlap and connect, the composition feels continuous rather than divided into separate medallions.

The mustard base brings warmth without relying on a traditional floral or Persian arrangement. Navy blue provides the darker counterpoint, giving the pattern enough contrast to work against both light and dark flooring. The result suits contemporary interiors, modern homes and eclectic rooms where an unusual floor shape can become part of the overall design.

Where to use the Mustard Sunburst Rug

In a living room, position the rug beneath the front legs of lounge chairs or a central seating arrangement so the circular artwork remains visible. Its irregular outline works particularly well around curved furniture and open seating plans.

For a bedroom, place it beside or partly beneath the bed where the scalloped edges can remain visible. The mustard tone works well with cream bedding, natural timber, navy accents and warm neutral textiles.

A lounge, reading corner or creative studio can use the rug as a central artwork for the floor. Its strong radial pattern can also work in larger open-plan interiors where a conventional rectangular rug may feel too predictable.

Color and styling

The primary palette combines mustard yellow and deep navy blue. Mustard brings warmth and works naturally with walnut, oak, tan leather, beige and cream. Navy adds depth and connects easily with dark blue seating, charcoal details and black-framed architectural elements.

Keep surrounding patterns relatively controlled if you want the sunburst artwork to remain the main visual feature. Solid upholstery, natural wood, stone surfaces and simple metal furniture create a balanced setting. For a more expressive room, pair it with artwork or accessories that repeat either the mustard or navy tone.

Care and everyday use

Regular gentle vacuuming helps remove surface dust and loose particles. Use a suitable setting for the rug's pile and avoid aggressive brushing that can pull at the tufted yarn. For small spills, blot the area promptly with a clean, absorbent cloth rather than rubbing the surface.

Keep the rug away from prolonged direct sunlight where possible, particularly when placed beside large windows. Rotating the rug periodically can help distribute everyday foot traffic. For deeper cleaning, professional rug cleaning is recommended, especially when treating larger stains or maintaining a handmade wool construction.

Made to your preferred size

The Mustard Sunburst Rug can be produced in custom dimensions when you need a particular fit for your room. Standard size options can include 4x6, 5x7, 5x8, 6x8, 6x9, 7x10, 8x10, 8x11, 9x12, 10x13 and 12x15 feet, subject to production requirements. Custom sizing is useful for seating areas, bedrooms, large lounges and open-plan spaces where a standard rectangle may not provide the right coverage.

If you are planning a custom size, share your required dimensions with us before ordering so the proportions of the four sunburst motifs can be considered for the finished rug.
